Review
Enter Shikari never cease to surprise, shake things up, and innovate in the post-hardcore / alternative scene by consistently pushing boundaries and reinventing themselves with each new release With their seventh album, A Kiss For The Whole World, the British band from Saint Albans opens yet another new chapter in their career, showcasing their ability to evolve while staying true to their distinctive sound.
From the very first notes of the album, it grabs listeners with its raw energy and innovative instrumentation. The title track sets the tone with a fusion of trumpet, electronic keys, and frenetic percussion, blending elements of electro-rock and punk in a way that’s both exhilarating and unexpected. It’s evident from the outset that the band isn’t content to play it safe, as demonstrated by the boldness of the three singles released prior to the album’s launch.
Diversity and experimentation are hallmarks of Enter Shikari’s music, and A Kiss For The Whole World is no exception. While one track may not resemble its predecessor, the band consistently manages to maintain a cohesive sound. On ‘(pls) Set Me On Fire’, they combines elements of their early screamo days with funky sonorities, while ‘Dead Wood’ juxtaposes introspective lyrics with lush string arrangements and EDM influences.
However, Enter Shikari wouldn’t be Enter Shikari without strong thematic content, addressing socio-political issues and introspective reflections. The blend of metal elements with thought-provoking lyrics and pop sensibilities in ‘Leap Into The Lightning’ perfectly encapsulates the essence of the band. Similarly, ‘Jailbreak’ encourages listeners to question their beliefs amidst electro and pop-punk influences, with Rou Reynolds urging them to “question everything,” especially their own beliefs. Meanwhile, ‘goldfish’ harkens back to the band’s early rage and anger, offering a return to their post-hardcore, heavy metal roots
‘A Kiss For The Whole World’ is a testament to Enter Shikari’s constant evolution and daring. With this album, they continue to redefine the boundaries of electronic and post-hardcore music, offering a captivating and thought-provoking listening experience. They affirming their place as pioneers in the alternative music !
