The Bucharest-native hip-hop band Subcarpati dropped by Brussels almost two years ago, and it was such a goddamn party. They’re now back for round 2 at La Madeleine on the 27th of February 2026!
Subcarpati have been a central piece of the Balkanic underground music scene for a while now, fusing hip-hop with Romanian folk music but also with anything from prog rock to dancehall, electronic music, and much more. It’s an infectious mixture of old and new, a deep cultural engagement to promote the beauty of folklore to a disconnected youth. It makes sense that after conquering the local airwaves, they’re set on bringing their message across the Romanian diaspora in western Europe.
And boy are they coming strong. Balkan Trafik in 2023, La Madeleine in 2024, and now a re-run of an iconic show in an iconic Brussels venue together with an European tour. Don’t know about you, but we’ll be there to witness the other sound of the Balkans!
