Review
June 19th, 2020. This day has changed their lifes forever. Because of the Covid and lockdowns? Not at all. Because it’s the day they released their single “Hypa Hypa”. More than 2 years later, they finally release a brand new album “Tekkno” and, spoiler alert, it kicks ass and gonna be in your/our top 10 at the end of this year!
This new full-length album contains 10 tracks but we knew already the half of it released in already famous singles: We Got The Moves (September 2021), Pump It (December 2021), Spaceman ft Finch (April 2022), FCKBOY ft. Conquer Divide (July 2022) and the last one Hurrikan (August 2022).
All these songs are already classics of the band or will be soon enough. They already have the habit to finish their shows with We Got The Moves like when they soldout 2 times the Trix in Antwerp in April (2200 tickets !) or their insane show at Jera On Air 2022. Pump It was in the same vibe: catchy song with funny video. Spaceman got the same catchy vibe including some German lyrics. Fckboy is a song released to be in the current trend: pop-punk revival. Yes, it was a bit cliché – so is the whole genre – but it was really well done and the featuring well found. And what about the very last single: Hurrikan… The 90 most crazy seconds ever! A song you’ve to listen by watching the video as half is a beautiful cliché of German folkloric music, perfectly executed, followed by one of the most violent part they’ve written. Not the song we’re waiting the most in live but perfect to boost their popularity!
That being said, we have 5 sick songs: what about the 5 others? Are they worth listening to? Are they worth it next to these 5 first singles? Yes and yes. The best song from this second part is definitively Arrow Of Love as it’s a perfect synthesis of their music between eletrocore and metalcore with catchy chorus, some funny and electro vibes, in a song powerful from the first to last second! The first song we discover on this album, as the 4 first have been released through singles is Mindreader. Powerful as f*ck: a massive metalcore anthem that will have a huge success in live for sure! The most surprising song on “Tekkno” is the last one, Neon, with a obvious influence of Linkin Park. We could easely imagine Chester taking the clean vocals part on this. Not cliché. Not a boring song. Just a nice song with a good tribute to one of the biggest influence on our actual generations. It would be interesting to hear Electric Callboy give their throughts on this song and how/why they end up with this.
Without any surprises, Electric Callboy deliver one of the best album of the year. We said 19 June 2020 change their life forever. Well, 16 September is another really important on their life changing too. And it’s only the beginning. It gonna be in your/our top 10 and the end of the year!
