De La Soul
One of the best hip-hop records of all time will celebrate its 35th anniversary in 2024! In 1989, the album 3 Feet High and Rising instantly propelled De La Soul to the top of the very popular American hip-hop scene at the time. Especially for this occasion, the legendary group will perform at De Roma this fall.
With their very personal jazz rap, much more cheerful than the usual hip hop of the 80s and 90s, De La Soul first had a hippie reputation to which they later categorically opposed themselves. Thanks to A Tribe Called Quest and Jungle Brothers, De La Soul is considered one of the main groups of the Native Tongues Posse, a hip-hop movement of black rappers which is mainly based on Afro-centric lyrics and rhythms from jazz.
