Well-known to music lovers, the Sjock Festival in Gierle is back in 2023 with an XXL line-up. A veritable goldmine for rock fans, we take a closer look at this year’s event !
A true underground experience !
Cock Sparrer, Wine Lips or Zeke, from July 7 to 9 we’ll be treated to a fine selection of punk-rock. The festival’s real strength lies in the fact that it offers an eclectic line-up for young and old alike. Great legends of the 90’s (Fu Manchu, The Spits, …) and great discoveries of the moment (Private Function,…) all opened by established Belgian bands (Midnight Tattoo,…), there’s nothing wrong with this open-minded approach ! Based in Gierle, the festival has become an institution for our neighbors to the north, but is struggling to make an impact on our side of Belgium.
Rock’n’roll higlight of the year ? Here are a few bands you should definitely check out !
- Fu Manchu
The big legends of the 90’s are back for a hard-hitting set. Skaters, get out your boards, Fu Manchu is coming to the main stage on Saturday to put our eardrums back in place. This stoner band hasn’t aged a day.
2. Crooked Steps
Also on Saturday, Ghent’s Crooked Steps take over the “At The Titty Twister” stage. With their 60’s-style garage rock and Tarantino movie atmosphere, this Belgian band will gets things off to a flying start and are ready to gets us twisting in the warm weather.
3. Les Lullies
Because open-mindedness breaks even language barriers. On Sunday, we’ll be catching up with rockers Les Lullies. Their latest single, “Dernier Soir“, has just been released, and they’ll be back on the Bang Bang stage to send us some pure rock in French !
4. Bob Wayne and The Outlaw Carnies
Sjock‘s strength also lies in its ability to bring us great rockers from the land of country music. The American comes to pay us a rare visit, on the small stage, to offer us some very rootsy country, for the connoisseurs. Acoustic guitar, cowboy boots, we’re ready for a journey into the depths of dirty rock.
5. Midnight Tattoo
A bit of street-punk never hurts, especially when it comes from Antwerp. Get your mugs and moshpits ready, Midnight Tattoo, this is solid stuff. A renowned name on the Belgian scene and the DIY scene, the Antwerp-based band will be hitting the main stage hard. We can’t wait …
Do you like it ? There are still a few places left here, and we’ll be there on Sunday for interviews and to (re)discover this festival we won’t want to miss ! July 7-8 and 9 in Gierle ! (BE)
