It was only Wednesday but fans were ready to party hard as if it was a Friday night! Dizzee Rascal, the man himself returned to Brussels to throw a kick-ass party
Early weekend vibes in Brussels
DJ Vega, resident DJ of the Brussels hip hop collective STIKSTOF and one of the founders of the label FRONTAL opened the night. The party vibe was there, and the crowd, though small, danced into the night to remixes going from hip hop, over trap, to grime.
A live act from Vega, solo or with his hip hop collective, would have made this night even better.

Pump the bass up, we want the bass!
Maybe it is a ‘Bad Behaviour‘ but the legend of UK grime, Dizzee Rascal made his entrance being 10 minutes fashionably late, joined on stage by his hypeman Bigman Scope. They quickly made up and energized the crowd. The heavy bass lines in ‘Jus’ a Rascal‘ elevated the atmosphere, but the party truly started with the first hit song ‘Fix Up, Look Sharp‘ featuring an impressive scratching demonstration by DJ MK.
When Dizzee asked “Who in here is the loudest?” , the ballroom of Ancienne Belgique erupted in an all-for-one shouting contest. Moving on with even heavier bass in the Chase & Status cover which was so ‘Heavy‘ that it even produced a mosh pit.
Before playing ‘Bassline Junkie‘ he stated: “I love Belgium because Belgium loves the bass. But I think I don’t want no more bass tonight.” which was obviously a playful joke. The song got everyone shouting “I don’t need no speed (No). I don’t need no heroin (No thanks). I don’t want no coke (Not today). You can keep your ketamine (Yeah). I’m a bassline junkie (What?)”

The time had come for an exclusive sneak peek at a new song ‘R U SLEEPING‘ that clearly got the fans going wild. Need to say that the security did a good job intervening when an individual climbed on stage to take a dive. Time for another classic called ‘Dance Wiv Me‘ which took us back in time to 2008. The party continued when Dizzee took us all on a ‘Holiday‘ that got everyone’s hands in the air.
“Can we make it filthier than this?” With these words the bass got heavier and got people moving harder which eventually led to a wall of death for ‘Filthy Bassline’.
Needless to say, the crowd went aboslutely mental when ‘Bonkers‘ dropped. Our very own photographer Bart got lucky capturing a close-up shot of Dizzee Rascal singing straight into his camera.
