Legendary German Thrash Metal Quartet Sodom Announces New Album The Arsonist, Releasing June 27th Through SPV/Steamhammer!
As a member of the Teutonic Big 4 of Thrash Metal, Tom Angelripper (vocals, bass), Frank Blackfire (guitar), York Segatz (guitar), and Toni Merkel (drums) are back for their 15th release since their debut album, Persecution Mania (1987)! This upcoming album will be defined by the band’s commitment to achieving the most authentic sound possible, recording the drum tracks on a 24-track analogue tape machine. No studio tricks, no digital overdubs — just pure, raw power. To quote frontman Tom Angelripper: “No plastic! The difference in sound compared to today’s standard drum productions is astounding and has had a positive impact on all the instruments. Naturally, the time, effort, and costs were higher, but we’re happy to invest in a superior result.”
But that’s not the only way Sodom is planning to distinguish The Arsonist. While the complex production process reflects the band’s exceptional creative drive, all four members were fully involved in the songwriting process. Tom explains: “Frank contributed those signature Sodom riffs and hooks again, while York favors more epic, battle-hardened songwriting. As the perfect complement to both of them, Toni, who is also an excellent guitarist, contributed a number of tracks and helped make the album even more versatile.”
To kick off their 15th warmongering campaign across the globe, the announcement is accompanied by Trigger Discipline, the first single and the heaviest track on The Arsonist. This 4-minute martial onslaught will blast into your eardrums, telling the tale of a sniper who has completely lost control and shoots indiscriminately, a brutal depiction of chaos and destruction.
