German Modern Metal band XO Armor are back with a second single to start off the year with a mindmelter!
‘Brainrot‘ is described by the band as “being about the joys of numbing escapism in a world that’s headed to its thirteenth hour, wrapped in the dress of an energetic Deathpop banger”. Beyond those buzzwords lies a track that is drowning in fun synths, stupid Gen Z humor and such a goddamn well-written chorus.
Together with ‘Pyromancer‘, XO Armor is set on a chaotic evolution of their original take on Modern Metal fused with Trap, cemented with their 2023 release Nublar. By naming their album after the Jurassic Park island it was clear that they were only half-serious. This orb doomscrolling, interstellar goblin, medieval sci-fi fantasy aesthetic is hard to pass on. Both singles are stupidly catchy, I’ve caught myself looping these guys in the background more than once. I simply can’t wait to hear more of what they’re cooking on a potential EP or full release.
The German-speaking scene has been well-known to birth some of the most iconic metal bands out there. Together with other acts like Annisokay, Unprocessed, Nasty, Paleface Swiss and more recently vianova, we’re seeing a very interesting rise in modern bands from that region. XO Armor might be a bit late to the party, but I’m convinced that they’re among some of the freshest acts to keep an eye on! The already super-high quality audio and video production alone is impressive for a band this early in their run.
