Helmet is one of the most important post-hardcore bands of the 1990s. The band plays Zeppelinesque riffs with reverb-heavy post-hardcore precision, smashing lousy chords over low-pitched, menacing guitar. The music sometimes makes rhythmic bucks thanks in part to vocalist/guitarist Page Hamilton’s jazz background. Controlled aggression and intelligent noise are Helmet’s trademark. Bands such as Deftones, Rise Against, Pantera and Tool count Helmet’s music as one of their main influences. Meanwhile, the band’s repertoire counts no less than eight albums. At the end of November 2023, their ninth album “Left” joins this list.
