The 10 bands you can’t miss at Ieperfest 2022

After 2 years without festivals due to the pandemic, life is coming back to normal. So are festivals. Graspop, Rock Werchter, Lokerse Feesten… there’re still tons of festivals happening in our small and lovely country. Including one of the most famous hardcore festival in Europe: Ieperfest! We make today a list of 10 bands you have to see there!

ANIMAL CLUB

Ieperfest has always supported the local scene by providing some spots to Belgian hardcore bands on the line-up. And they still do 30 years later. You’ll find many Belgian bands at the beginning of the festival but also higher on the schedule! There are a few we especially advice you to watch like Animal Club. You won’t be disappointed!

COFFIN FEEDER

Not an hardcore band but it’s been a while since Ieperfest started to book bands that are not in the hardcore genre but still have the same ethics. And it’s great to change a bit. And with Coffin Feeder, you’ll still be able to mosh hard! We saw them at the FleddyPalooza at the Ancienne Belgique in April and they were the best act of the day – with Fleddy Melculy. With members from Aborted, Leng Tch’e and Fleddy Melculy: you have the perfect Belgian Supergroup and you won’t be disappointed !

DRAIN

New band coming from California and what a band: they released their debut album in April 2020, right in the first lockdown worldwide without any shows or tours to promote it. And still, many people discovered it. And like it! Prove of their big potential. Recently signed to Epitaph Records, they’re ready to show who they are – at least in live – to the Belgian and European scene what they are made of!

GLASSBONE

We saw them in April opening for Landmvrks and they really did a great job! But this a small crowd not really in the mood to enjoy their music. Hopefully, at a festival, people will be more likely able to enjoy the vibes of the French act and their industrial metalcore.

GET THE SHOT

Hardcore from Canada? You’ll think about Comeback Kid for sure. But don’t forget Get The Shot. Year after year, album after album, show after show, they prove they’re a very promising band in the actual hardcore scene. Always so powerful and intense. And a band that hold to their values: they had to tour 2 weeks in France in April for the Hellfest Warm-up but due to sexual allegations against a member of the booking agency, they prefered to cancel.

MORNING AGAIN

It’s really rare to see them in Belgium. At least for that, they deserve to be in this top 10! They were supposed to play last year at the Revelation Fest in Aarschot but it was obviously cancelled because of the Covid restrictions. This year, they’re back for sure. The band has a long story with the H8000 and it’s so great to see them finally play in Belgium again!

STICK TO YOUR GUNS

We start with a classic but how could we not mention them? They’ve been announced very late as headliner to the festival as they are also at Graspop Metal Meeting 2 weeks before – which is soldout now. And even with the actual controversy around Jesse (singer) and what he said about the conflict Ukraine – Russie and other topics on Twitter, the band is still on the bill. For now.

TERROR

Another classic. A band you all know. But a band you still have to see. The keepers of the faith will destroy the stage on the first day they co-headline with Stick To Your Guns. Even if their last albums were not the best, they still are one of the best hardcore live band. Go in the pit to sing Keepers Of The Faith, Return To Strength, Live By The Code and all their classics!

VEIN.FM

Born almost 10 years ago, seems the band is really known since the Covid or the year before. Even if they’ve already toured so much and with big and classic acts acts like Code Orange, Every Time I Die, Turnstile or Touche Amore. But it takes time to make your name known. But in 2022, they are on the right way! They released their new album “This World Is Going To Ruin You” via Nuclear Blast early March. And it’s only the beginning!

ONE STEP CLOSER

Another young but promising new band in the hardcore scene. This straight-edge melodic hardcore band coming from Pennsylvania is born only in 2016 but are already doing a proper European tour with appearances at Ieperfest, Jera On Air and shows around this Summer. Before an headliner tour later this year with a show at Kavka Oudaan (Antwerp) on Halloween Day. Keep an eye on them and go watch their show at Ieperfest: it could be one of the highlights of the weekend!
