This night was not for the fainthearted with 2 heavily masked bands on the line-up.
Post-apocalyptic setting for Sick N’ Beautiful
Looking like they emerged from a Mad Max movie, the masked gang of Sick N’ Beautiful made a grand entrance on the tunes of the instrumental song ‘March Of The Scolopendra‘.
The band from Italy started with a brand new song ‘(Human) Is Overrated’ from their upcoming album Horror Vacui. The groovy hard rock sound of this song made it abundantly clear the band was a great choice as support act for Lordi.
The female vocalist of the band known as Herma Sick was able to showcase her powerful vocal range on the next song ‘Tonight We Go to War‘. Credits also go to lead guitarist L0r1 who played an impeccable guitar solo.
Moving on with their third song being ‘God of Thunder‘ which got KISS fans excited as this was a cover song. The band was excited to announce another new song ‘Hate Manifesto‘ with a quote that would help to define them: “We are not here to fit in. We are here to stand out. We are the aliens, we are the freaks. We are the outcast”
The queen of the thunder tribe, Evey, kicked of the song ‘New Witch 666 (The Rising)’ beating her drums. One final blast with ‘Makin’ Angels‘ before they left the stage for Lordi.
Setlist: (Human) Is Overrated – Tonight We Go to War – God of Thunder (KISS cover) – Drop It to the B – Raise the Dragon – Hate Manifesto – New Witch 666 – Makin’ Angels
A theatrical horror exhibition infused with a touch of humor
After a theatrical entrance to the tunes of KISS‘s ‘God of Thunder‘ , Mr. Lordi and his monsters emerged on stage. The Finnish monsters instantly captivated the fans being present in De Casino with the brand new song ‘Legends Are Made Of Clichés‘ from their latest album Limited Deadition which was released mere weeks ago. After giving us a taste of the new album they took us back to 2008 with the song ‘Girls Go Chopping‘.
Beyond expectation, Mr. Lordi proved to be a true comedian as well as he made some funny jokes inbetween songs. Fans got really excited for one of their hit songs called ‘Who’s Your Daddy‘ which got amplified by their use of a smoke gun.
After an unusual drum solo by Mana, the Finnish monsters continued their set. Mr. Lordi reappeared on stage, this time wielding a giant chainsaw as a prop. ‘Girl in a Suitcase‘ from their album Lordiversity-Humanimals, followed the groove of the previous songs. Sadly they were not able to bring Hella on this tour but her replacement Nolan played an impressive keyboard solo which led into ‘Synthax Error‘.
The more melancholic ‘Call Off The Wedding‘ , which was originally co-written with KISS‘s guitarist Bruce Kulick, ended with another beautiful keyboard segment.
Enter Mr. Lordi the comedian; After playing two lines of ‘Hellizabeth‘ they left the stage, only to return immediately, claiming it was a joke about NEVER getting the song right, not even the 16th time on this tour… obviously this was just a joke and they actually nailed the song.
Known for their costumes and props as they showed all through the set, Mr. Lordi reappeared in a nightcap ready for ‘Blood Red Sandman‘. But the best prop of the night were the giant bat wings he added to his costume to create the perfect evil atmosphere for the song ‘Devil Is a Loser‘.
After an impressive 90-minute theatrical performance, Lordi had no excuse anymore and gave the fans what they have been waiting for: ‘Hard Rock Hallelujah‘ , the ultimate song that got them European recognition as Eurovision Song Contest winner in 2006.
Setlist: Legends Are Made of Clichés – Girls Go Chopping – Who’s Your Daddy – Beast of Both Worlds – The Riff – Girl in a Suitcase – Syntax Terror – Call Off the Wedding – Retropolis – Hellizabeth – Blood Red Sandman – Devil Is a Loser – Would You Love a Monsterman? – Hard Rock Hallelujah
It has been almost 20 years since Lordi won the Eurovision Song Contest, and still after all these years they clearly have a lots of fans still banging their songs. They looked like monsters on stage but I am sure they are the most friendly gang you can meet. Hard Rock Hallelujah!
