Metalcore night in Sint-Niklaas

Last Saturday Polaris brought Fatalism to a sold-out De Casino in Sint-Niklaas.

Konbanwa Paledusk

Opener this night was Paledusk, a rising metalcore band from Japan. On the tunes of ‘Lose Yourself‘ by Eminem they made their great entrance on stage.

First song ‘AREA PD‘ was a fast paced song filled with high energy, two steps and breakdowns. The next song ‘BLACK ICE‘ surprised with a very cool drum ‘n bass drop!

Paledusk was proud to present their new EP PALEHELL which they just released more than a week ago.Of course they couldn’t miss the chance to play some of the new songs such as ‘NO!’, ‘SUPER PALE HORSE’, ‘PALEHELL’ and ‘RUMBLE’.

PALEHELL’ got the crowd dancing and ‘RUMBLE’ led to the first circle pit of the night. Last song ‘SLAY!!‘ was one for the die hard fans! Paledusk brought us on a 30 minute trip to Japan where anime and metalcore coexist.

Setlist: AREA PD – BLACK ICE – NO! – SUPER PALE HORSE – PALEHELL – RUMBLE – SLAY!!

Thornhill, Australian heavy boys band

When you blend the attitude of Arctic Monkeys together with the sound of Deftones and add in some extra metalcore you end up with Thornhill.

Safe to say they did a great performance! Vocalist Jacob Charlton showed he could sing and scream equally well. Thornhill kicked it off with the first song of their album The Dark Pool: ‘Views From The Sun‘.

Luckily, they also unleashed their last song ‘Obsession‘ upon De Casino, Sint-Niklaas, which was released just days ago. hey also played songs from their last album Heroine. The song ‘Casanova‘ got everyone jumping up and down. Later the first wall of death was called upon!

Setlist: Views From The Sun – Coven – Obsession – Leather Wings – Raw – Casanova – Where We Go When We Die

Silent Planet reinvented

The third band of the evening was Silent Planet, an American metalcore powerhouse from California.

Silent Planet released a new album SUPERBLOOM last year in November. No coincidence the guys found this tour a great opportunity to introduce SUPERBLOOM to the European fans.

Offworlder‘ was the first song on their setlist and instantly got the whole room in a melancholic state of mind. Continuing with ‘Collider‘ which clearly showed that besides of his amazing screams, vocalist Garrett Russell is also capable of doing amazing clean vocals.

For the song ‘Antimatter‘ , Garrett asked everyone to take their lights out; which was beautiful. ‘Panic Room‘ was dedicated to people living with trauma and PTSD. Beautiful moment of silence.

Last song tonight was ‘Trilogy‘ which was written when Garrett was in a mental hospital. This song kicked in so hard with the fans, especially when he got off stage to meet some of them for a second.

Fair to say, with the new album SUPERBLOOM they reinvented themselves.

Setlist: Offworlder – Collider – Panopticon – Euphoria – Dreamwalker – Antimatter – Panic Room – :Signal: – Anunnaki – Native Blood – Trilogy

Time for Fatalism

The time has come for Polaris to get on stage to present their newest album Fatalism which was released in September 2023.

Harbringer‘ awakened the crowd surfers among the fans. ‘Hypermania‘ and ‘Lucid‘ were some of the classics that got the circle pit moving. On the other hand everyone was singing together “This is all I have from a life spent wishing, waiting. And I won’t let go if you beg me to” on the song ‘All Of This Is Fleeting‘.

Vocalis Jamie Hails took the chance for a little shout-out about metalcore concerts and fans in general “There is no ego, no bullshit; There is only love in this place, we are all here to have fun.”

Right before playing ‘Martyr (Waves)Jamie took the microphone and sent out an important message, one about caring for your loved ones and how hard it can be to lose someone. This message and the song was tributed to Ryan Siew , ex-guitarist for the band and artistic soulmate who sadly passed away last year.

Just like wizards in the wizarding world raise their wands, everyone in the room raised their phone up high to light up the room to commemorate Ryan. It truly was a beautiful and emotional moment. For the last part of their set they treated us with more classics such as ‘Masochist‘ , ‘Pray For Rain‘ and ‘The Remedy‘.

Setlist: Harbringer – Nightmare – Hypermania – With Regards – Lucid – All Of This Is Fleeting – Landmine – Overflow – Martyr (Waves) – Parasites – Dissipate – Masochist – Inhumane – Pray For Rain – The Remedy
