The Death We Seek tour ends in Antwerp

On Friday, 23 February, what better way to start the weekend than with a big concert! Today we’re lucky enough to be at Currents’ The Death We Seek tour, where they’ve surrounded themselves with three big bands for the occasion, and even though tonight is the last day of the tour, they still have energy to spare

Opener for this tour: Sentinels.

Sentinels was a great opener. To be honest, they were not much about fancy riffs but more straight to the core music. Combined with some groovy beats this was a great start of the evening.

They took this opportunity to present their new EP ‘In Limbo‘ and the crowd definitely liked that. When their song ‘Nomadic‘ kicked in the first moshpit of the night became reality.

Setlist: Embers – To Wither Away – Nomadic – Glitch – Albatross – Inertia

Second band on stage: Oceans Ate Alaska

Oceans Ate Alaska definitely knew how to make an entrance starting of with a little intro tune before playing their first song of the night ‘Metamorph‘.

Midway their set, they chose to unleash an old classic which got the crowd going wild. Of course we are talking about ‘Hansha‘ for which new vocalist Joel Heywood even got off stage into the middle of the circle pit.

Further in their set, the song ‘New Dawn‘ was a great example to show what Joel Heywood brought to the table: the songs got heavier than before. For the last song ‘Escapist‘ vocalist Joel Heywood asked for one last circle pit to which the crowd happily responded. Great performance!

Third band on stage: Being As An Ocean

Sadly, Joel Quartuccio , vocalist for Being As An Ocean announced earlier he couldn’t join this tour due to personal reasons. Luckily they found a good substitute in Djamilia Azzouz who is the vocalist for British metalcore band Ithaca. That being said, she sure did a good job!

Truth be told, the emotions and intensity were not as heightened as usually at a concert of Being As An Ocean. The party really started with songs as ‘Alone‘ and ‘L’exquisite Douleur‘ which the fans clearly loved. Since they released a new album this year they had to include the title song to this album called ‘Death Can Wait‘ into their set.

The first tunes of ‘The Hardest Part Is Forgetting Those You Swore You Would Never Forget‘ made the room quiet for a bit before they all chanted the chorus in crescendo “Lying awake in bed, feeling the spot on my chest Where you used to, where you used to rest your head.”

This show was all about having fun, chanting and crowdsurfing!

Top of the bill: Currents

Finally, it was time for Currents to get on stage. As expected, they brought a lot of energy on stage through all of their set. They started their set with a couple of songs of the new album ‘The Death We Seek‘ such as ‘Living In Tragedy‘ , ‘Vengeance‘ and ‘Remember Me‘.

Guitarists Chris Wiseman and Ryan Castaldi treated us with some superb guitar solos as could be heard in ‘Apnea .This concert was all about headbanging, crowdsurfing and moshing (someone even lost his shoe in the moshpit).

This all reached a climax at the end of the final song ‘Unfamiliar‘ when lots of people crowdsurfed their way to the front to end up on stage together with the band.

Setlist: Living in Tragedy – Vengeance – Remember Me – Never There – A Flag To Wave – Monsters – Kill The Ache – Better Days – Into Despair – Apnea – Shattered – The Death We Seek – So Alone – Unfamiliar

As expected, the evening lived up to its promises, and Currents proved that they are at the top of their game and an essential band in the metalcore scene! A big thank you and congratulations to Flood Floorshows for the organization of this great show!
