A show with Enter Shikari is always something special. Their unique style and energy always disturbs us: are we at a heavy show or in a club partying hard?! The answer is easy: both at the same time! More than 20 years career and they are still killing it. This Sunday evening was intense and the Trix felt too small for them!
This Sunday 26 June was the unofficial Jera On Air after-party! A few hours after coming back from Ysselteyn and taking a well-deserved shower, we were back on track to travel to Antwerp. Many of us had the same idea. In the audience obviously but also on stage as we found back Trash Boat who were also playing at Jera On Air! And we don’t know who followed who but it was the third time in less than 3 weeks that we saw the British band as we catched them live in Paris with As Everything Unfolds too!
A couple of minutes before the doors, we had the chance to have a chat with Tobi Duncan, singer of Trash Boat. An long interview about how it feels to be back on the road, the new status of the band and his preference between festival shows and indoor shows like tonight. Seeing so many faces from Jera On Air really gave us some festivals vibes which were perfect to enjoy Trash Boat set which was a bit different from 2 days ago: this time, the cover from Linkin Park isn’t on the set-list, it’s only about original songs! From Silence Is Golden to the amazing He’s So Good, the British act gave us all the energy they still had. And a part of the audience already there did the same. Their music between pop-punk and nu-metal was the perfect fit to prepare us for Enter Shikari.

A small change-over, a quick return to the bar to take a GinTonic and we were back in the pit to welcome the starts of this very hot evening: Enter Shikari! This show postponed due to obvious reasons happened at the perfect time. Especially for our photographer Mike, big fan of the band, who celebrated his birthday tonight. Between photo-pit and mosh-pit, the evening was perfect!
Tonight was the 4th show from Enter Shikari at the Trix, the third as headliner. Their last headliner show in Belgium was at the Ancienne Belgique before the pandemic so tonight felt a bit intimate.
From the first notes of The Great Unkown, we knew it gonna be fire (well, there wasn’t suspense at all either)! Moshpit, crowdsuring, sing-along: the crowd went through the roof and through the barrier too! Busy evening to come for the security guys! Because very quickly, meaning already on the second, Enter Shikari went back to their roots with Destabilise, Sssnakepite and Juggernauts released more than 10 years ago!
During the whole set, they go back and forth between their recent and older stuff. The newest were the moments a bit more calm when the oldest were the crazy times. Obviously, when we say “more calm”, it’s only compared to the crazyness old-school songs like Mothership or Gandhi Mate Gandhi! But the highlights were, in the order: Antwerpen which they only play in Belgium, Sorry You’re Not A Winner which is the only song with We Will Rock You you’ll see tons of people clapping at the same time and at the same rythm, the duo Gandhi Mate Gandhi + Mothership and the ending song Live Outside played during an encore they had to shorten! Indeed, Constellations, Reprise 3 and T.I.N.A. were all on the printed set-list as the first three songs of the encore but weren’t played (source: last.fm).
