No time for Monday blues as hell was once more unleashed on Kavka Zappa in Antwerp, Belgium. On the menu: Fit For A King, Emmure, Thrown and The Gloom In The Corner!
Let all hell break loose!
Waiting at the outer gate of hell was “Sherlock Bones” and his formidable sect, known collectively as The Gloom In The Corner. It’s worth noting that Sherlock Bones is just one of the many evocative names embodying the narcissistic and demonic catalyst central to the story woven through the band’s music.
Hailing all the way from Melbourne, Australia and for the first time in Europe, the band delivered a great show. From the first notes in ‘From Heaven to Hell‘, The Gloom In The Corner captivated the crowd with their unique blend of groovy clean vocals, heavy breakdowns and overall ominous atmosphere. And they did a good job to keep the crowd captivated through the whole of their set, with some more movement on the heavier tunes of ‘Survivor’s Guilt‘. With ‘Bleed You Out‘ as their last song it was time to leave the stage to the Swedish heavy hitters in Thrown.

Last year Thrown played a great set in Ghent as support for Counterparts.This year, the Swedish quartet came to Antwerp with a fierce determination to live up to the expectations. As soon as the band took the stage with a relentless onslaught of crushing guitars and aggressive vocals, songs like grayout and dwell served as sonic punches to the ears. In essence, Thrown delivers a straight-through experience of unbridled heaviness, definitely something for the mosh pit.

The mighty Emmure are here!
The third band of the evening was the mighty Emmure, an American metalcore powerhouse that requires no introduction; they definitely made a name for themselves over the past years. The moment vocalist Frankie Palmeri commanded the stage with the lyrics “Get the fuck up”, the crowd responded instantaneously and jumped up as Frankie got exactly what he asked for.
Being a band for more than 15 years, Emmure gave us a trip down memory lane unleashing classics like’ Shinjuku Masterlord‘, ‘R2Deepthroat‘, ‘Children of Cybertron‘ and, of course, ‘Solar Flare Homicide‘. This last song set the room ablaze metaphorically, sending the fans into a frenzy. Emmure didin’t shy away from playing songs from their most recent album Hindsight with tracks such as ‘Gypsy Disco‘ and ‘Pigs Ear‘.
With their final song ‘When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong’ they brought their set to a powerful conclusion, leaving the whole crowd singing together “Won’t you be my bride?!” A fitting end to a truly exceptional performance.

Waiting at the inner gate of hell was the American metalcore band Fit For A King. From the outset, it was clear they were 100 % ready to take the stage on their first ever European headline tour. The first melodic strains of ‘The Hell We Create’ got the crowd off their feet… Keeping them off their feet with songs like ‘Breaking the Mirror‘ and ‘Falling Through The Sky’.
The clean vocals in ‘Falling Through The Sky’ got the room quiet at first but as soon as they started playing ‘Times Like This‘ there was no way to keep quiet for any longer. In a gesture to their devoted fans, Fit For A King treated us to older gems like ‘Locked (In My head)‘ and ‘Vendetta‘, both hailing from their previous album The Path. ‘When Everything Means Nothing‘ concluded the end of their performance… Well, that was what everyone thought, until they started off one last time with the sample track for ‘God of Fire‘: A flawless conclusion to a great night.
