Nothing better than a good pop rock concert to lift your spirits on a rainy day

Two years ago, Halflives was at Kavka Zappa to support Against The Current on their tour. Now, we are 2024 and Halflives is playing their own headline show in Kavka Oudaan. For the Inferno tour, they brought along their friends in Cadet Carter.

First time in Belgium: Cadet Carter

Cadet Carter is a British/German Emo Punk band based in Munich, Germany. Kavka Oudaan was not completely full, but the people who were there surely came to have a good time. As stated by Nick Sauter, the vocalist himself, the songs they write are mostly about positivity and optimism.. typical pop punk themes right? They did pretty well for playing first time in Belgium.

The song that stuck with me was called ‘Windshields‘, which is about social media trolls and the negative impact they have on others. Luckily, this sad song was countered by their newest happy song ‘Lift Me Up‘ which is about focussing on the good things no matter what.

Setlist: Crazy Maze – Let It Go – In The Clear – Strangers – The Best Part – WIndshields – Blinding City Lights – Lift Me Up – Car Park Song

Halflives filling hearts

The room of Kavka Oudaan was getting full, just in time for Halflives to get on stage. From the first notes of the song ‘Everybody Knows It’ we all knew they had everyone’s attention. Singer Linda Battilani dedicated the song ‘EVERYTHING SUCKS!‘ to her monitors that were not working, which meant she couldn’t hear what she was doing. Funny way of dedicating a song. Still she and the rest of the band did not disappoint, at all! Great energy, great music and great performance!

For their brand new song ‘jealous.‘, singer Linda Battilani put away her guitar to have more focus for the microphone and her dancing. It really pleased the fans and got everyone cheering and clapping their hands. Midway the set, Linda got off stage to sing ‘One Bad Day‘ in the crowd, surrounded by fans and lighting up the room with cellphone flashlights. This song meant a lot to the band, which she stated before, and I am sure it means a lot now to the fans being present there.

After this beautiful moment, it was time for a trip down memory lane with songs off their first album ‘Empty Rooms‘ such as ‘Burn‘ and ‘Mayday‘. The concert came to a closure, but not without another surprise. Instead of going off stage and waiting for the fans to ask for more songs, they just decided to give them right away. As quoted by Linda Battilani: “Normally we would get off stage but since the backstage is far off we are just going to play a couple of more songs for you”.

With ‘Dynamite‘ as their last song they ended the concert with a bang. As soon as the concert finished they hurried off stage to meet the fans, take pictures with them and shake their hands. Another great night at Kavka Oudaan!
