Novelists return with new band line-up

No better way to end the week than gathering your friends and go to a concert!

Sunday 18th of February 2024, 7pm.

People are waiting in line for the doors to open.

Opener for this tour: Ashen.

Ashen is a fairly new band from Paris, France so I had no idea what to expect. As soon as the band came on stage and played the first song ‘Angel‘ , I knew this was one to look out for! They brought great energy on stage and the vocals of Clem Richard, main vocalist for Ashen, blew many minds!

Setlist: Angel – Sapiens – Hidden – Chimera – Nowhere – Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana cover) – Outlier

Second band on stage: Elwood Stray

Elwood Stray is a post-hardcore band from Germany.

Last year they had the honor to share the stage with bands such as Rise Of The Northstar and Ghøstkid. This year they are back with Novelists.Elwood Stray is known for its mesmerizing clean vocals, catchy melodies and heavy breakdowns.

What is so great about this band is the unrelenting energy that vocalist Maik Nehrkorn shows on stage! This tour was a great way of showcasing their first album ‘Gone With The Wind‘ which was released mid 2023.

Setlist: Free Falling – Playing Along – Trespass – Seasons – Negative – Uncertain Me

Third band on stage: The Word Alive

Probably this band does not need much introduction. The Word Alive is a well-known American metalcore band that played many shows in Belgium. Besides treating us with old classics such as ‘Why Am I Like This?‘, ‘Trapped‘ and ‘Misery‘, The Word Alive took this tour as an opportunity to present their newest album ‘Hard Reset‘.

As expected , the band got the crowd moving and the party kicked in. Great show!

Setlist: Strange Love – Nocturnal Future – Why Am I Like This? – Trapped – Misery – Hate Me – New Reality – 2012 – One of Us

Top of the bill: Novelists

Tobias Rische, former vocalist, leaving the band last year was a hard pill to swallow and for a moment the future of Novelists was not looking bright…

Entering Camille Contreras who picked up the microphone with flair and gave the band hope again.

As the headliner gets on stage it is clear someone is missing here… Few moments later Camille Contreras, new vocalist for Novelists, made her way through the crowd and climbed on stage just in time for their first song ‘Prisoner‘.

Right from the start, everyone in the room knew this was going to be a great performance. We are about half way down the set as the band decided to play both ‘C’est La Vie‘ and ‘5:12 AM‘ in which Camille used the advantage of her angelic voice to entice the room in serenity and deep silence. Also great guitar solos by Florestan Durand and Pierre Danel.

After this moment of serenity they shifted to higher gear with some heavy fast songs, to end their set with one of Camille’s favorite songs ‘Mourning The Dawn‘ This was the first major tour for Camille and she totally nailed it tonight. You could clearly see she was enjoying her time on stage. I am sure we can expect a lot more of her in the future.

Setlist: Prisoner – Terrorist – Do You Really Wanna Know? – Heretic – C’est La Vie – 5:12 AM – A Bitter End – Turn It Up (Keyboard Warriors Social Club) – Lost Cause – Colas – Smoke Signals – Mourning The Dawn
